What can I say? Amazing. Moving. Tearful. Patriotic. Very Human.
A statement to dedication, to international cooperation, to strength of spirit. Whatever happens in the days and weeks, months and years that follow, this is a great moment. The joy of the family members, the smiles, The Oakley Sunglasses (wonder if there's a promotional opportunity here?).
The shift leader came up last. If only half the stories about this man are true, he's a folk hero in waiting. When the shit hit the fan, this guy got everyone organized, and focused on survival.. He laid out some rules and kept everyone's spirits up...for 69 days. Un-friggin believeable. The outside world thought them dead for the first 17 days.
It's a great day to be a human being.
Amen to that!
ReplyDeleteThe last 48 hours had me riveted not so much for the rescue itself, but my awe of the humility of this human being and the spirit he encouraged in these men, their families...and the world that watched as each man safely ascended to the surface. Everyday we witness man working toward his own benefit, sometimes at the cost of another. It's not often we see man working to the benefit of his brother and not look for reward or notoriety.
We need more leaders like him.
A great day to be a human being indeed.
I agree, but I also think they could have brought them up a lot faster as a group instead of doing it Juan by Juan...
ReplyDeleteYou're a sick man, son.
